Is the hoopla around Facebook misplaced?
I am a confused soul.
I don’t know if I should fault Mark Zuckerberg for creating Facebook or Steve Jobs for ‘inventing’ smartphone or US Govt for sponsoring fundamental research of networking.
I am confused whether I should pay more attention to privacy of variable things such as likes, photos or privacy of fixed things such as SSN.
I am confused if I should blame Facebook and Russia for influencing elections in 2016 or blame The Koch brothers / Fox / MSNBC for influencing every election.
I don’t know if I should blame Facebook for wasting people’s time with feeds, friends, likes and dislikes or blame SnapChat, Fortnite, Movies, and Sports.
I am really confused. I was thinking that Facebook is just a “technology” pill and that all pills have side effects.
Sarcasm aside, having watched Mark’s testimony, I feel Mark is a more ‘mature’ version of younger Bill Gates. He was adept in steering Facebook from Desktop to Mobile. He is trying to steer the company yet again. As Facebook invests to combat data privacy concerns, there’s a high probability that advertisers will find re-positioned platform even more attractive in the long term.
There’s no crystal ball to see Facebook’s future. But you don’t need one to see what Mark is trying to do.
